Manually Add/Edit Course Prefixes, Courses, and Courses Taught
This article explains how to manually add or edit course prefixes, courses, and courses taught within Faculty Acitivty Reporting (FAR). These key course details (such as course prefix, number, title, hours, enrollment) can be uploaded individually or in bulk at anytime.
If you encounter any errors when adding or editing, refer to the FAR Error Message Glossary. This resource provides explanations of common error messages and guidance on how to resolve them.
Manage Course Prefixes, Courses, and Courses Taught
Navigate to the Setup page and select Courses, Course Prefixes, or Courses Taught under the ‘Add/Edit’ section.

When adding a new course, course prefix, or course taught, the following windows will display.
Courses
Course Prefixes
When creating a new course prefix, you must specify the academic unit that owns it. In FAR, courses are organized according to the ownership of their course prefixes, ensuring that teaching data is accurately reported by each unit.
Courses Taught
If a Course Taught is uploaded to FAR, but the actual course has not been added to FAR, an exception will be noted while uploading the course taught.

FAQ
Will reloading the Course file with updated CIP codes overwrite previous codes in FAR?
Yes. If courses were previously loaded using an older version of CIP codes, reloading the Course file with “Update Records” set to Yes will update the CIP codes in the system.
- If a CIP code has been updated, the system will migrate the old code to the new one. There’s no need to retain the outdated version.
- If a CIP code has been deleted, the corresponding field will be left blank.
- After updating CIP codes, it’s recommended to perform a migration for teaching and degrees data to ensure consistency across records.
