Overview of Faculty Classifications
Faculty Classifications (FC) in Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR, Faculty180) categorize faculty into useful groups, such as by rank, tenure status, or employment status (full-time/part-time). These classifications are essential for filtering specific faculty groups using the faculty selection tool and are critical in preparing for accreditation reporting. Managing FCs requires Full Administrative Rights granted via unit permission.
Setting up FCs is critical for accreditation reporting, but keep in mind that incorrect selections can overwrite existing entries.
When updating FCs, keep in mind that they are stored by term and year to avoid data issues. The method chosen to update FCs can affect how data is populated and stored, so incorrect options may lead to unintended consequences.
Faculty Classifications
Default
Default Faculty Classifications are classifications that are available in the default database configuration. FCs, such as Faculty Ranks, have values that can be modified while others, such as Race/Ethnicity, have values that are static and cannot be changed. Modifications to FCs will be discussed during the Implementation Phase. The following are default Faculty Classifications.
Default Faculty Classification | Description |
---|---|
Employment Status |
The standard values for Employment Status are Full Time, Part Time, Inactive, and Staff. Modifications to Employment Status options are extremely rare. Contact the Interfolio Project Manager assigned to the FAR implementation for consideration of modifying the standard values. These Employment Status options can be used as filters in the following locations:
To change the default Employment Status that appears on the faculty picker, change the Institution Details under Miscellaneous > Default Faculty Status Filter to the desired Employment Status. |
Tenure Status |
Examples of tenure status are Tenured, Tenure Track, and Non-tenure Track. It is recommended to avoid Modifications to Tenure FCs to prevent reporting issues. Contact the Interfolio Project Manager assigned to the FAR implementation for consideration of modifying the standard values. |
Faculty Ranks | Faculty ranks are stored in two different locations in FAR. The data are added/updated using different methods. Examples of faculty ranks include Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Modifications to Faculty Ranks can be made. Contact the Interfolio Project Manager assigned to the FAR implementation for consideration of modifying the standard values. |
Gender | The standard values for Gender are Male and Female |
Race/Ethnicity | Race/Ethnicity is a default Faculty Classification. The standard values for Race/Ethnicity are Hispanic/Latino of any race, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, White, and Unknown or Not Reported. Values are static. |
Country Origin | A list of countries is available to select from. |
Languages | This is an open-entry text box. |
