Establish Custom Ratings Criteria and/or a Blind Review

If allowed by the institution, Administrators and Committee Managers can set custom evaluation criteria to rate applicants on a 5-star scale. Evaluators can rate and compare applicants based on categories like scholarship, teaching, research, publishing, etc. with Interfolio calculating average scores by category and overall.

A blind review can be set up to hide comments and ratings from other Evaluators. Custom criteria and blind review settings can be added when creating or editing a position.

Establish Custom Ratings Criteria and/or a Blind Review

  1. Navigate to the Positions page and click the hyperlinked Position name to navigate to that position's page. Select Position Actions > Edit Position.
  2. Navigate to the Evaluations Settings step on the Position Summary page.
  3. On the Evaluation Settings page click +Add Criterion.

In order for evaluators to assign a 1-5 star rating for any applicant, at least one criterion must be created for that position. Without any criteria, ratings cannot be assigned.

  4. Complete the Add Evaluation Criterion form that displays. Repeat this step for as many criterion as desired.
  5. The criterion will display. Repeat these steps for as many criterion as desired.

These criterion will display on the applicant's page under the Ratings section.

A criteria can only be deleted from a position once every rating has been cleared by each evaluator.

  6. Check the Blind Review box to prevent evaluators from seeing others' comments and ratings. Administrators and Committee Managers can still see comments and ratings when this is checked.

The institution can enable or disable commenting for evaluators. With Blind Review turned on, Evaluators can only view their own ratings and comments; when off, they also see the Committee's Summary (average) rating and other evaluators' Comments.

To view specific evaluator ratings, users with proper permissions must run an applications report.

Administrators and Committee Managers are not impacted by the blind review setting. They can always see the Committee Summary rating and all Comments left by evaluators.
