Dossier Document Storage and Return Policy

This article reviews the Dossier document storage and return policy at Interfolio.

 

Document Storage within Interfolio Accounts

Documents in a user's Dossier account remain accessible as long as the account is active, regardless of the subscription type. Free Dossier accounts are deleted after six years of inactivity, this excludes subscription accounts and those linked to an institution. Deletions typically occur at the beginning of each calendar year.

What happens to my data if I leave the institution?

If an Institutional Dossier user leaves their institution and is removed from the system (or if the institution's license is not renewed), their Dossier account will automatically convert to a (free) Dossier account. The user will still have access to their documents, can continue storing files, and can request letters of recommendation as usual.

Request Document Return

After scanning mailed documents and placing them in the Dossier account, Interfolio securely shreds the original paper copies within three months of receipt. If original copies are needed within that time frame, please contact help@interfolio.com for assistance.

Note that confidential letters can only be returned to the original letter writer.
