Cancel (Delete) a Request for a Letter of Recommendation
A request can only be canceled or deleted if it has not been added to an application or used in a delivery. If the request is attached to an open position and the institution allows application edits, you must remove it from the application first. Requests can then be canceled (deleted) from the Materials page in your Dossier account.
If the letter or request is attached to an application and editing rights have been turned off for that position, the request can no longer be canceled.
Delete Request
- Navigate to the Materials page and click the Title of the desired letter to preview.
- Select Delete from the Other Options dropdown.
- If you cannot select the option to delete a letter or request, it is likely attached to an application. You must first remove the request from the application before proceeding.
- If you cannot select the option to delete a letter or request, it is likely attached to an application. You must first remove the request from the application before proceeding.
If you delete a request before it’s fulfilled (Status: Pending), the letter writer will automatically be notified via email and the letter request will be removed from their ‘Letters to Write’ page. If the letter writer attempts to access the request from the original email they received, they will be taken to a blank dossier page with no option to upload a letter.
We recommend that the requester reaches out to the letter writer to let them know personally that there is no action for them to take.
Remove Request from Application
- Navigate to the Deliveries page and click Edit next to the application that the request is attached to.
If the edit option is not available, it means the position is closed or the institution has disabled editing. In this case, you must contact the institution directly (not Interfolio) to request edit access.
- Remove the request from any applications it is attached to by selecting the trash icon next to the letter request.
This action removes the letter from the application but does not cancel the request.
